    Pre-Hab: Preparing Patients for Surgery
South Bay Hospital’s new pre-hab program prepares patients for hip and knee surgery by:

    • improving muscle strength
    • improving flexibility
    • increasing cardiopulmonary endurance prior to surgery
    • correcting muscle imbalances around the joints
    • improving nutrition for healing and weight loss

The aim of the program is to minimize injury and increase physical and emotional readiness for surgery.

To participate in pre-hab, a patient must obtain a prescription from their attending surgeon four to six weeks prior to surgery. The patient is then seen by a Registered Physical Therapist and Licensed Dietician for a physical assessment, physical therapy and pre-surgical education.

For more information on the Pre-Hab Program at South Bay Hospital’s Center for Joint and Spine call 813-633-2555.
